Morzine, the dual identity of the village and Avoriaz
Morzine has two faces, and that is what makes it so exciting for a project manager. On one side, an authentic Savoyard village resort, a former slate-quarrying town whose chalets combine stone, wood and slate roofs. On the other, Avoriaz (1,800 m), a car-free purpose-built resort with avant-garde timber architecture designed by Jacques Labro in the 1960s, where timber cladding and building volumes are strictly imposed.
At the heart of the Portes du Soleil — one of the largest Franco-Swiss ski areas — Morzine attracts a large family and British clientele. Projects range from chalet construction to renovation, in two very different architectural styles depending on whether you are building in the village or in the Avoriaz area.

Two styles, the same high standards
In Morzine village, the challenge is to respect the character of the former slate-quarrying town: stone, wood, roofs, volumes. In Avoriaz, the rules are of a different kind — timber cladding and volumes imposed by signature urban design. In both cases, our design office works within the local plan (PLU) from the first sketch.
Altitude constraints apply everywhere: snow loads, enhanced insulation, a shorter building season, and access to Avoriaz that adds its own logistics. Rigorous coordination of the trades is essential.
