Le Grand-Bornand has kept a rare authenticity: the leading farming commune in Haute-Savoie and capital of farmhouse reblochon, it has more than forty farms and traditional Savoyard timber chalet architecture, particularly in the Bouchet valley. The resort is split between the village (around 950 m) and the resort hamlet of Le Chinaillon (1,300 m), in the Aravis ski area.
Building or renovating here means becoming part of this living heritage. The timber chalet remains the benchmark, and the local plan (PLU) protects both the architectural style and the alpine pastures (farmhouse reblochon is a protected designation of origin, AOP).
